In order to grant an ENTRY VISA TO ITALY, Italy requires that non-EU citizens, or those who invite them, stipulate a specific guarantee issued by a Bank or an Insurance Company authorized to operate in the Bonds branch.
This insurance coverage is necessary to demonstrate the effective availability of suitable means of subsistence for the non-EU citizen during their stay in the EU country.
The insurance can be stipulated by the foreign citizen or by whoever invites him, with a regular residence permit, currently resident in Italy.
Unlike bank guarantees, insurance guarantees do not require the deposit of an equivalent value to be guaranteed (currently equal to € 3,905.00). This feature inevitably makes them more attractive.
Insurance companies, however, subordinate the issuance of the insurance to the verification of the applicant’s financial solvency, by requesting documents certifying the economic condition of the applicant..
Applicant’s documents to attach to the request
- ID
- Fiscal code
- Last two paychecks
- Last income tax return
Host’s documents to attach to the request

The insurance guarantee for a stay in Italy up to 90 days, in compliance with the Directive of 1 March 2000 of the Ministry of the Interior, has a total cost of €120.00.
